Southlake, TX – The City of Southlake has officially appointed Alison Ortowski as the new City Manager. Ortowski, who has been a dedicated leader within the city’s administration for over 17 years, steps into this role after serving as Assistant City Manager since 2013. Her extensive experience in local governance and a deep commitment to the community make her a natural choice for this key leadership position.
A Longstanding Career in Southlake
Alison Ortowski’s career in Southlake began in 2007 when she joined the city as Assistant to the City Manager. Over the next decade and a half, she held several leadership roles, including serving as Assistant City Manager and Director of Economic Development & Tourism from 2016 to 2020. During this time, she played a significant role in shaping Southlake’s economic landscape, driving growth, and enhancing the city’s business and tourism sectors.
Ortowski's leadership within the city has consistently been marked by her strategic vision and community-centered approach. She also serves as an advisory board member for Methodist Southlake, furthering her commitment to fostering partnerships that benefit the city.
Educational Background and Leadership Training
Ortowski’s educational achievements complement her vast professional experience. She holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Texas, where she was recognized with the Outstanding Master of Public Administration Student award. She also earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in English from the University of Texas at Austin.
In addition to her academic qualifications, Ortowski has completed advanced leadership programs, including the Public Executive Institute at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs and the Senior Executive Institute at the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service. She was honored with the prestigious Linda Keithley Award for Women in Public Service by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) in 2020, a testament to her dedication and impact on public service.
Professional Affiliations and Previous Experience
Ortowski is actively involved in the broader city management community. She is a member of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), the Texas City Management Association (TCMA), and the North Texas City Management Association. These memberships underscore her commitment to maintaining professional excellence and staying updated on the latest developments in city management.
Before joining the City of Southlake, Ortowski gained valuable experience as a Downtown Development Specialist for the City of Denton from 2003 to 2007 and as the Main Street Director for the City of Gatesville from 2000 to 2003.
